Concrete Floor Coating

Concrete Floor Coating In Sudbury, Ontario

Concrete floor coating covers everything a bare slab can become: garage, basement, workshop, porch, mechanical room, shop floor or storage bay. Same principle every time, different system depending on what the floor has to survive.

If you have concrete and you want it sealed, hard-wearing and easy to clean, this is the page.

Call +1 705-242-8237 and tell us what the floor is used for.

Concrete Floor Coating details

Sealing Is The Point

Concrete looks solid and behaves like a sponge. It has an open pore structure that pulls in water, salt brine, oil and anything else that lands on it.

In Sudbury that means a winter of absorbed road salt, then surface loss in spring as the slab sheds what it soaked up.

A coating closes the surface. Nothing gets in, so nothing pushes back out, and the concrete underneath stops degrading.

Everything else a coating gives you, the look, the grip, the cleanability, sits on top of that one function.

Matching The System To The Room

A garage takes flake epoxy with a hard polyaspartic top coat, because it meets tires, grit and brine.

A basement takes a lighter build focused on sealing, dust control and brightness.

A workshop takes extra thickness and impact resistance where tools get dropped and benches get dragged.

A mechanical or utility room takes a solid colour with chemical resistance specified against whatever is actually in the room.

An outdoor slab takes a UV-stable polyaspartic with aggregate, never a clear epoxy.

Preparation Decides The Outcome

Diamond grinding opens the concrete so the resin bonds mechanically into it. Acid etching, which is what retail kits specify, cleans the surface without opening it properly.

Old coatings have to come off entirely. New resin bonded onto peeling paint will fail exactly where the paint fails.

Cracks get chased out to a V and filled so the repair has something to hold. Skimming filler across the top of a crack is a temporary fix at best.

Moisture gets measured. Every time, on every slab that sits on or below grade.

Slabs We Turn Down, And Why

Honesty is cheaper than a callback.

A slab that is structurally failing needs concrete work, not coating. Resin will not bridge a settling crack that is still moving.

A slab pushing moisture beyond what a primer can handle will delaminate whatever we put on it.

A floor with active hydrostatic pressure underneath needs drainage addressed first.

If your floor is one of these we will say so at the quote and tell you what would have to change.

Finishes Available

Full flake broadcast, the standard garage and basement finish.

Partial flake, which shows more base colour and costs slightly less.

Solid colour, clean and plain, common in commercial and mechanical spaces.

Metallic, a decorative poured finish for living areas and showrooms.

Any of them can carry added aggregate for grip where the floor gets wet.

What We Install

Other Floors We Coat

Sudbury Epoxy Floors installs these systems for homes and businesses across Greater Sudbury.

Flake Epoxy Flooring

Flake epoxy flooring is the system most Sudbury garages and basements end up with. An epoxy base coat is rolled onto ground concrete, coloured vinyl chips are broadcast into it while it is wet, and a clear top coat locks everything down.

Basement Floor Coating

Coating a basement slab takes a cold, dusty floor and makes it part of the house. The concrete gets sealed, the grey powder stops, and the surface will carry furniture, gym equipment and daily traffic.
