Industrial epoxy flooring wears in lines, not patches. The forklift aisle, the pivot point at the end of a rack run, the apron inside the dock door and the strip in front of a workbench take almost all of the damage, while the floor under the racking stays untouched for twenty years.
That pattern decides the epoxy flooring specification. There is no sense coating a whole plant to the same build when a quarter of it is doing the work, so we thicken the aisles and the turning circles, and use a harder top coat where the traffic actually is. Not every commercial floor should take standard epoxy flooring. A commercial kitchen, a food processing room or a bottling area that sees hot water, steam cleaning and organic acids wants a urethane-based system with a coved base at the wall, not a standard epoxy build.
The same is true of a battery charging bay, a chemical store or a containment bund, where the question is what the floor has to resist rather than what it has to look like. We say plainly when a job needs one of those systems, and equally plainly when a straightforward concrete floor coating is all the room actually needs.
Customer-facing epoxy flooring has a different job. Epoxy flooring here has to look considered, take shopping carts, stools and heels, and clean up quickly, and it is usually laid in a space with glass and good lighting where every defect shows.
Ground and polished concrete effects, metallic finishes and flat solid colours all suit that setting, and the metallic epoxy flooring page shows what the decorative systems can do. The preparation underneath is exactly the same as an industrial floor, which is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether it lasts.

Rock also cracks a slab in predictable places, usually where the pour crosses from ledge onto fill. Those cracks get chased out and filled properly rather than skimmed, because a crack that moves will telegraph straight back through a new floor.
Usually yes, and the answer depends on the slab rather than the calendar. From November to March this city often stays below freezing all day, with January averaging about minus thirteen.
Standard epoxy flooring thickens below roughly ten degrees and can stop curing altogether, so it is the wrong choice for an unheated building in February. Polyaspartic tolerates far colder application and keeps building strength where epoxy stalls, which is why it is our default here rather than an upsell.
We take the temperature of the slab, not the air, and heat the space when the numbers call for it before any epoxy flooring goes down. If conditions will not allow a floor that lasts, we book the work for a warmer window instead of taking the deposit.
Nearly every epoxy flooring failure we are called in to replace comes down to what happened before the resin went down. Acid etching instead of diamond grinding leaves concrete that a coating cannot key into. Coating over an unmeasured slab that is pushing moisture guarantees a lift. Coating over an old, failing layer means the new floor fails exactly where the old one did.
All of it is recoverable. It means grinding the old floor back to sound concrete and starting properly, and we do that regularly in buildings that bought on price the first time.
Most commercial epoxy flooring and industrial coating systems in Canada fall somewhere between five and twelve dollars a square foot installed, covering preparation, materials and labour. Heavy-duty urethane systems for kitchens, wash-down and food areas run higher, commonly in the ten to twenty dollar range, because the material and the coved detailing cost more.
Larger epoxy flooring jobs price better per square foot, since grinding equipment, mobilization and setup cost much the same whether the area is small or large. Most contractors carry a job minimum somewhere around two thousand to twenty-five hundred dollars for that reason.
Those are market ranges rather than a quote. Slab condition, the amount of old coating to remove, the line marking and the hours we are allowed to work move the number more than area does. We measure, test and give you one fixed written price.
